Continuing with the previous post, there are many different types of maps. Not including the sub levels the type of map can completely change your game.
To name a few:
- Pre-made : The whole map already exists and everything is painstakingly set down by the developer
- Procedurally generated : The map does not exist before loading the game, and either exists on a set seed or infinitely expands.
- Both : Parts of the map are premade, but exist surrounded by(or in) a procedurally generated space.
- Neither : The map does not exist before the player creates something on it; this is rarely used by mostly sandbox games.
However this does not encompass how your map is divided. Biomes are an alternate name for sections of a map, and make up the entirety of a map. Biomes usually contain different types of environments, such as; deserts, tundra’s, forests, oceans, volcanoes, mountains, and beaches. They might also contain made-up environments such as “Terraria’s” corruption.
Biomes and map types are very important to consider when making your map, however there are more important things such as item distribution. We will be talking more about this on 11/6/22 11:00am(Est), join us then!
